Hello everyone,
Be careful setting up SpamGuard programs when you are on a
mailing list (or lists)!
We all hate spam. It's irritating, annoying and tedious to
get through. I personally weed through hundreds of spam
messages on a daily basis. :-(
SpamGuards are a great idea BUT be very careful!
If you use a program such as MailSword (and countless other
similar ones) that require senders to 'verify' or 'complete
a passcode" in order for their message to get to you, you
will be promptly UNsubscribed from any lists you are on
(including this one)
Why? Because every single time a message is posted to the
LIST, the sender receives an email from YOUR spam service,
even though the message was not sent personally to you.
Most subscribers are quite rightly irritated by this. It's
actually spam, because that person sending to the list
didn't write to you personally and thus received an
unsolicited email from you.
As a list admin of several lists, I don't have the time to verify addresses
or send back passcodes. There is just too much work to do
administering lists as a volunteer, to take on extra tasks.
If every subscriber had these services on their email all a
list admin would be doing would be responding to these spam
alert notices in order to get list mail to them!
There are very good SpamGuard programs that *don't* require
such measures.
So, this is my word of warning/caution to anyone using such
programs - you will be unsubscribed from the list without
notice (since I can't write to you without having to verify
my email or send a passcode). You will not be permitted
back on until the spamguard block is removed.
That doesn't mean you can't use a spamguard program! I use
one - but it doesn't require senders of emails to verify or
send passcodes - and those spamguard programs are fine to
use. Please ask around or do a Google search to find a
SpamGuard program that doesn't require such measures.
There is one list subscriber who is currently using
MailSword, hopefully they recognize the name of their
spamguard program, because I don't want to name them in
this email. I will be unsubbing them from the list within
the hour, and I urge them to remove MailSword or set up a
different email address with which to receive list mail.
Any questions, please write to me directly,
( ) NOT to the list. The topic of spam and
spamguards is not open to discussion on the list, this is
an administration notice only
Thanks
