Thank you for the information about George Washington Goethals. It is much
more than I have. I do have a few specific dates about the immediate GWG
family.

Also I found the dynasty and crest you sent earlier very interesting. The
dynasty sounds like it is from the 1831 book about Goethals which I mentioned.

You asked a number of questions.

First, how to search the rootsweb.com listservs.

Search for the Rootsweb.com home page - http://rootsweb.com
On its home page, scroll down to MAILING LISTS
Click on INTERACTIVE SEARCH
On that screen, type in GOETHALS and submit
On the Goethals-L page, type in GOETHALS again - that will search and list
all entries for the year selected. Under the year 2001, I have posted what I
have about the George Washington line.

Second. Can you trace Abrahams parents on the SSDI? The answer is No. This
is just a record of dates and places where people who were receiving social
security payments were born and died. If you search the SSDI for GOETHALS,
you will get 130 names - meaning that at least that many people named
Goethals died in the US since 1940. I only knew about 10 of them.

Third. My Goethals-ancestors.
My grandfather Peter Bernard Goethals (b: 8/21/1860 Breskins, NL, d: 1/9/1942
Riverside, CA) came over in 1890 on his honeymoon with his bride Melanie Van
Acker (1869-1955). They had nine children and I have details on all of these
descendants.

Peter Bernard Goethals was the son of Joannes Francisus Goethals (b:
7/31/1827 Watervielt, BE, d: 3/19/1865 Breskins, NL). He was married to
Maria Theresia Albregts (1831-1898). They had four children, but two died
young. The surviving sister was Nathalie Goethals who married Eduardus de
Milliano. (We were just visited by their granddaughter who lives in Sint
Idesbald, BE)

I show Joannes Francisus Goethals as being the son of a Petrus Goethals and
Maria Theresia van de Wauwer, but have no other information.

Well, do you have any links to this line?

Thanks for all the info you have sent.
