This is being sent to my Goethals relatives at my level (cousins) and at the
next younger level. The email addresses are limited to the ones that I have
in my possession and which are still working. (I have other addresses, but
their email comes back - hint, hint)
During the past few months, I have been attempting to establish a "listserv"
for the GOETHALS family. So far no one has subscribed to this list. As a
result, I have received a number of inquiries separate from the listserv, but
these do not get put into the "archives" of the listserv unless I separately
put them in.
The archives feature is a key element of this approach to sharing information
about our family. At a later date, anyone interested can SEARCH to find out
if some information has ever been POSTED about the specific person or subject
on that listserv. Ideally, long after I am gone, you might be able to find
out what I knew about the Goethals family.
So this is my message of today. I am urging that each of you SUBSCRIBE to
the "" listserv. You do that by sending an email to:
, and write SUBSCRIBE in the subject line and
also in the message area. Everything else is automatic. As a result, you
will start receiving a copy of any message that is sent to this GOETHALS
listserv.
If you are not interested in that specific message, just delete it. But
remember, "rootsweb.com" keeps them on their computer and if you later want
to find out if anyone ever reported anything about the Petrus Bernardus
Goethals ancestry or his descendants, you can find in these archives of the
GOETHALS listserv information about your specific area of interest.
Listservs of this type work because people do tend to ask questions, and
people who know the answers do tend to post the answers. From this
interchange most of us will learn more about the GOETHALS line of our
ancestry. When you are ready to study this part of how you came to be, you
can get that information. So please subscribe.
Below is a message that I received today from a resident of Zeeland named Jan
van de Putte. He is interested in learning more about all of the GOETHALS
lines. He attached to his message a couple of items which I will later make
available to people who are subscribers of the GOETHALS listserv. One item
is a brief history of how the name was established, and the other item is
picture of the official CREST for the family name.

Message from Jan
From a not so sunny province of Zeeland ,
Hello Peter ,
Thank you for your mail . It is always nice to have someone to discus
family-matters with !
I have translated some of the descriptions in my website and put it in the
form of a new introduction which I send you herewith in attachment .
I hope my english language won´t confuse you . If you wish to have more
translations , just name it .
I also send you the story of the Goethals-crest ; it is rather peculiar
don´t you think ?
You mentioned in your mail the Goethals listserve ; what is that exactly ?
Has it something to do with that other e-mail address you referred to :
?
The next time I would like to discus with you the genealogy of George
Washinton G. , that is if you agree , because I have to sort out some files
about that . I had a rather extensive correspondance with his grandson ,
Thomas Goethals , ( 79 years of age ! ) , who is still living at Martha´s
Vineyard .
In short , I am interested in everything that bears the name Goehals !
So far for today . I hope to hear from you !
Greetings ,
Jan.
