Does anyone have any information on the von Essens of Germany? I know there were some Count von Essens in Sweden, a Russian Admiral von Essen around the first WW I and some v. Essens in Finland. Where did the family originate, were they freiherrs (barons), grafs (counts) or various branches and levels?
