Sept. 28, 1928-March
9, 2012

Age: 83

Residence: Greeley

Ruth (Kurtz) Rice, 83,
of Greeley, died March 9, 2012, at Grace Pointe Senior Campus in Greeley. She
was born Sept. 28, 1928, in Windsor to William and Effie (Frank) Kurtz.

After graduating from Windsor High School in 1946 and UNC in 1950, she
taught at Fort Lupton, where she married J. Lee Rice on Dec. 23, 1954. After
teaching in Fort Lupton for 20 years, she and her husband moved to Pennsylvania
and later Virginia. She returned to Greeley after the death of her husband and
has lived here since 1983.

Mrs. Rice wrote numerous books and pamphlets
of educational materials on a variety of subjects for high school teachers, and
she contributed articles to educational journals and other publications. She
performed volunteer services for Weld Food Bank and the Greeley Museum, where
she was instrumental in establishing the German-Russian exhibit. She loved
animals and worked to promote animal causes and conservation efforts.

She
is survived by several nephews and a niece. Her two sisters, Effie Brunner of
Windsor and Mary Ring of Torrington, Wyo., are both deceased, as is her brother,
Henry Kurtz.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. at Grace Church,
6400 20th St., Greeley, Colo., on March 26, 2012. In lieu of flowers, memorial
gifts may be made to the Kurtz Scholarship fund, c/o Neill Brunner, 1225
Honeysuckle Court, Windsor, Colo. 80550 for the Windsor High School in Windsor.
Mrs. Rice established this fund because all four members of the Kurtz family
graduated from Windsor High School.
