Residence: Greeley
Paul Schafer was born in
Greeley to Elizabeth and Jacob Schafer on the farm that is now occupied by
Greeley West High School.
He attended schools in Greeley and graduated
from Greeley High School. Paul served in the Merchant Marines during World War
II and upon returning from service, farmed in the Greeley, LaSalle and Kersey
areas.
He married Margaret Grigor in Greeley. They brought into their
home Jackie Pedigo and raised her as a daughter. In 1972, he purchased his farm
in the Eaton area and lived there until he retired and moved to Greeley in 2006.
Paul was a member of First Christian Church, Johnstown Masonic Lodge, Century
Lodge #190, El Jebel Shrine, York Rite Bodies, Denver Consistory, Galilee White
Shrine, Order of Eastern Star and Order of the Amaranth. He served as Grand
Royal Patron of the Order of Amaranth of Colorado.
He is survived by his
daughter, Kathy (John) Voris, Menifee, Calif.; a very special family in his
life, Kathleen Davis, Dianne Cole, Todd and Teresa Cole, and Happy and Lance
Bennett; grandchildren, John (Leesa) Voris, San Clemente, Calif., Michelle
Voris, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Rebecca (Denny) DiCampli, West Springfield,
Mass. He was a great-grandfather to a number of lucky children; sisters, Esther
Wiedeman and Lydia Loeffler; and a sister-in-law, Venice Schafer. He is also
survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his wife,
Margaret; his parents; Jackie Pedigo-Haupt; sister, Maria Joclyn; and brothers,
Robert and Carl.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012,
at the First Christian Church with a reception to immediately
follow.
Memorial contributions may be made to Amaranth Diabetes Research
or the Shrine Crippled Children’s Hospital or the charity of your choice, 702
