Subject: [GV] Picture from Russo-Japanese War of 1905
Date: Wed, 27 May 2009 10:45:25 -0700 (PDT)
I received a picture of my great-grandfather from the Russo-Japanese War of
1905 and have a couple of questions that I hope some fellow listers can an
swer.
First question is whether anyone has heard of "Yendo Photographe, Japon." This seems to be the studio, and it seems to be written in French, given the spelling and also that something on the bottom right of the photo starts with "La...." The rest of the corner is torn off, sadly.
My second question has to do with the rank of one the persons. All three men have epaulets, but the one on our left has a cord of some sort around his right shoulder which hangs down: I thought this may designate his rank. That is my great-grandfather. I tried to attach a copy of the photo, but it bounced back.
I hope he was an officier or non-com, since there may be some info on him if he was. The last question is what is the military library's name that would have data on men in the Russian army during this period; any contact information would also be appreciated.
Thank you.
