I have used these lists for the village of Josefstal...they have the name,
birthdate of the conscript, father's name and aga, plus in many cases all
the names ages of any additional males in the household.

They also list whether the conscript is literate, married and in later
lists, had the name of the wife.

Additional data also features if the conscript lives at home and/or what
year they left for "America". The files themselves have the signatures of
the conscripts.

I have them for Josefstal for the years: 1880 - 1882, 1893-1896, 1900-1919

They were in the Josefstal village archive in Volgograd...as you can see
some years are not complete so it would be great to see where the originals
might be.

So I have a question: would Brent Mai or Kevin Rupp or another member of the
list fluent in Russian be willing to translate these lists? I could pay some
cost, if necessary.

My comments:

This sounds like somthing promising, especially since many Volga colonists
were conscripted into the Russian Army in the early 1900s.  Are these
records available on microfilm through the LDS Church or are they available
only through the Russian archives?  What time period do they cover?  It
would be helpful if you could post some specific information about the
records.  That would make it easier to tell who could help with the
translation.   Who knows--depending on the location and content of the
records, I may be able to help with translation.
