Vera,
You have such a marvelous turn of phrase - for an educated woman.
They did a poor job of selling the service.
Enough sarcasm - I will exhume the email and forward it to you.
And you can call me Bill.

Hi William,
I'd like to hear or see the Russian answer that made you feel faint.
Those of us who got in nice and early [ about 5-7 years ago] had whole
genealogies done for $200 within 6 weeks.
Mrs Erina has retired Sept. last year, is now a consultant to the new director,
who is neither a GR specialists/historian nor a professional?archivist, but an
administrator, who must now earn income to sustain, manage and maintain
the GR Archives in Engels.? They are selling a 'service'.
Bye
Vera

?Subject:[GV] Two Questions
The first question is how do I get the Engels Archive to answer a request. The
response I received a few months ago was in Russian and when it was translated
it basically blew me off. Yet I found that a distant relative had travelled to
the Volga region as part of a tour in 2004 and had gotten a response from
Engels. Do I have to travel to Russia? Or spend thousands of dollars?
?
My second question relates to the 1798 census, or more properly, revision list.
It was a revision list, correct? So the copy of the manuscript which AHSGR
purchased from the Russian Archives in St. Petersburg should have the residents
of a village from the prior revision list, which I believe was 1775 for Kind. Is
this the case? I know the 1775 revision does not exist, I am simply referring to
the references that would have been/should have been to the 1775 revision list
in the 1798 revision list.
