Harold "Mike" Kraft, of Gering, at the age of 80 years and 8 days, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Military graveside rites will be given by the United States Marine Corps. Friends who wish may call at the Jolliffe Funeral Home today, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Family members will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mike was born Sept. 12, 1928 at Scottsbluff to Dave and Eva (Homan) Kraft where he grew up and received his education. He served his country during the Korean War with the United States Marine Corps from Sept. of 1950 until May of 1952. During his service to his country, Mike received the Purple Heart twice, once in June of 1950, and again in May of 1952. Mike married Violet Steinbrecher on Nov. 1, 1953 at Scottsbluff. He worked at the Lockwood Corporation for thirty-seven years until his retirement.
He was a lifetime member of the church where he served as a deacon and trustee; the Elk's Lodge; and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and the D.A.V. Mike enjoyed woodworking and working in his yard. He will be sadly missed by his wife of fifty-seven years, children, grandchildren, family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Violet Kraft of Gering; daughters Lynda Landrum (Dean Ostdiek) of Gering, and Nancy Robinson of Fairmont, Minn.; son Mike Kraft (Crystal Westphalen) of Scottsbluff; grandchildren Jonathan (Cristy) Landrum of Bayard, Matthew Landrum of Gering, and Sara, Nicole, and Samantha Kraft all of Scottsbluff; great-grandchildren Mia Michelle Landrum and Conner James Landrum both of Bayard, and Ava Michael Kraft of Scottsbluff; sisters Betty (Willard) Schmer, and Molly (Albert) Abel all of Scottsbluff; and brother Robert (Dorothy) Kraft of Mitchell.
Preceding him in death are his parents, two brothers, five sisters, a granddaughter, and a son-in-law.
