Mary Leffler

Feb. 25, 1915 - Feb. 3, 2008

Age: 92

Residence: Greeley

Tribute: Mary Leffler was born to Gottfried and Katherine (Whittman) Hoffner of Fort Collins and christened on April 11, 1915. As a young child, she traveled with her family by train and buggy to Barnesville after living in farmers' labor houses. She worked the fields, helped care for her younger siblings, and attended Barnesville and Gill school districts. The family moved to Eaton in 1927 to work in the orchards. She graduated from Columbine School District and was confirmed in the Christ Lutheran Church in 1929.

Mrs. Leffler married George Leffler on Feb. 4, 1934, and learned the talents of homemaking and German cooking from her brother-in-law's wife, Mollie. She had four children losing her eldest at childbirth.

Mrs. Leffler worked in retail stores until retiring at Jones Company as well as farming. She married Alex Deer in 1976. She was a 4-H Leader, a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, and later a member of St. Paul's Congregational Church. She was also a member of American Germans from Russia. She enjoyed working in the yard, flowers, sewing, crocheting, and taking care of her family.

Mrs. Leffler died Sunday at Life Care Center of Greeley.

Survivors: Two daughters, Ila Mae Larson and husband Jack of Gill and Marilee Kissler and husband Jim of Gilcrest; a son, Harvey Leffler and wife Janice of Greeley; a brother, Jacob Hoffner and wife Irene of Wiggins; numerous neices and nephews; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: Her husband, George; a son; three brothers, Fred, Alexander and Conrad; three sisters, Amelia "Mollie" Winters, Rachael Eckhardt and Leah Toscani.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Congregational Church.

Interment: 10 a.m. Thursday at Eaton Cemetery.
