Maxine M. Shenefelt, 74, of Laramie left family and friends on Dec. 4 at Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie.

She lost a 10-month battle with ovarian cancer.

She was born June 21, 1932, in Callaway, Neb., to Lawrence A. and Rhoda R. (Henry) Kraft. She was the oldest of five children.

The family farmed in Nebraska and Colorado before settling in Cheyenne.

She attended Cheyenne schools and at the age of 15, started working at the Owl Inn. She also worked for the Laramie County School District No. 1 and St. Mary's School as a cook, enjoying this time learning and working with young people.

She married Robert "Bob" Shenefelt on Sept. 17, 1949, at St. Mary's Cathedral Chapel in Cheyenne. To the union they were blessed with four children, Rebecca "Becky," Maxine, Mary and Robert "Bob" Shenefelt Jr.

Mrs. Shenefelt worked for King's Food Host in Cheyenne prior to the family moving to Laramie in 1970. Along with her husband and family, they managed King's Food Host in Laramie. Later they owned Bob's Family Diner. She worked for the University of Wyoming and Home Bakery.

At the time of her illness, she was a cook for the Ivinson Home for Aged Ladies where she cooked meals for 15 to 30 ladies and enjoyed every minute she spent with these special ladies and friends.

She was a member of St. Laurence O'Toole Catholic Church and the F.O.E. Auxiliary in Cheyenne.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; children and their spouses, Rebecca "Becky" and Chris Riley of Laramie, Maxine and Jim Titus of Cheyenne, Mary Reed of Brea, Calif., and Robert "Bob" and Ema Shenefelt Jr. of Laramie; two brothers, Raymond Kraft of Cheyenne and Charles Kraft of Hartwell, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Joanna Riley, Mark and Christopher Titus, Michelle Gibbons and companion Tommy Jones, Ronny Gibbon and companion Tracy Hale, Joshua Shenefelt, and James and Christine Reed; and seven great-grandchildren, Kathryn Titus, Dakota Titus, Nicholas Gibbons, Brody Gibbons, James P. Reed, Benjamin Reed and Augustus "Augie."

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Rama McClellen and Delores Chalupa.

Funeral liturgy will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Laurence O'Toole Catholic Church with the Fr. James Schumacher as celebrant. Graveside services and burial will be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens in Cheyenne with the Rev. Fr. Ray Moss officiating.

Pallbearers will be Michael Shenefelt, Donald Shenefelt III, Ted Shenefelt, Joshua Shenefelt, Mark Titus and Christopher Titus.

Visitation will be held 2 to 6 p.m. today at Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home.
