Kathryn Abel Kugler, 87, of Gering, died Sunday, July 23, 2006, at the Northfield Villa Medical Center in Gering. At her request, her remains have been cremated at the Jolliffe Funeral Home Crematory in Scottsbluff. Her Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 27 at the Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Dale H. Brown officiating. Inurnment will be in Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery in Bridgeport.

Kathryn was born May 27, 1919, in Melbeta the daughter of Jacob and Katherina (Reifschneider) Abel. She was baptized at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gering and confirmed at the Bayard Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bayard by the Rev. John Erbes. Her early schooling was in District 4 in Morrill County. Kathryn graduated with the Class of 1937 from the Bayard High School. She attended Wesleyan University in Lincoln in the summer of 1937. She received her Associate of Arts Degree from Scottsbluff Junior College in 1959 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Chadron State College with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Education in 1964. She was an active member in Sigma Delta Nu Education Honorary. She had worked for Shannon Electric in Bayard and Bun's Drug Store in Bridgeport. She also taught school for 23 years in rural districts and then in the Bridgeport and Dalton Public Schools. Kathryn was united in marriage to Harry Schneider, Aug. 7, 1938, and to this un!
ion two children were born, daughter Joyce Elaine Schneider and son Harold Duane Schneider. She was later united in marriage to Arthur Robert Kugler, Jr. on Aug. 20, 1950.
She was a member of the Salem Congregational Church, former member of the Wheathearts area 12 Cattle Women, Secretary of Job's Daughters Bethel #22, Past President of the Presbyterian Women's Association, member of AARP, F.O.E. Aerie #2813 Auxiliary, member and Past Matron of Bridgeport Chapter #260 Order of the Eastern Star. Kathryn was an avid reader, enjoyed fishing (winning two Master Angler Awards), golfing, horseshoe pitching, crossword puzzles, gardening, crewel embroidery, needlepoint and playing rummicub. She traveled to most of the states in the United States, seven countries in Europe and most of Australia and New Zealand.
Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Elaine Schneider of Centennial, Colo.; son, Harold Duane Schneider of Lakewood, Colo.; granddaughters, Rori Lea Christenson, Kari Dillon, Karmen Jacobs and her husband Bruce; great-granddaughters, Mallory and Quincy Jacobs; sisters, Emma Hass, Lydia Tripple; and brother, Walter Abel.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Arthur Robert Kugler, Jr.; sisters, Minnie Langhofer, Leondina Thayer; and brothers, Robert, Victor and Jake Abel.
