RAGAS ceased to exit a few years ago, and Pleve announced that he will
not be doing any more GR genealogy research.
AHSGR is now offering to do research on your behalf in Russia,
or you can do it alone directly but it is timeconsuming and cumbersome
with transfer of money and orders, although it can be done, and I have
done it on behalf of others several times.
If the person is your client, go the easy way via AHSGR.
Less trouble for you.

Subject: [GV] Doing Research for Volga
This is the first time I have attempted to do any in depth research for a
Voga GR and I am finding that I am woefully uninformed about any research
resources and how to go about trying to find any information from the Volga
region.
After looking at the AHSGR website, it appears to me that the main
genealogical resources available are the migration to Russia list in
Stumpp's book, the Mai 1798 census, the Pleve immigration books, the
individual 1798 census records, and the Pleve/RAGAS surname charts.
Since I have people born in about 1859 & 1862, and there is not a census for
the village of Schönfeld after that time and there are not any surname
charts for the OCHS or APPELS, as I see it, the only way to find any
information on his family would be for my "client" to commission a surname
chart from Dr. Pleve or RAGAS. Is that correct or have I missed some
important resource(s)?
