Elvera Viola Reifschneider

BASIN -- Funeral services for Basin resident Elvera Viola Reifschneider, 83, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at the United Methodist Church in Basin by the Rev. Jack Preston. Burial will follow in Mount View Cemetery in Basin.

Visitation will be in Atwood Funeral Chapel of Basin from 1 to 6 p.m. today, Feb. 16; and at the church from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday.

She died Feb. 14, 2005, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis, from complications of pneumonia.

Born Nov. 20, 1921, in Burke, S.D., she was the daughter of Ernst and Meta (Schmidt) Stratman.

On June 14, 1942, she married Ralph Rueben Reifschneider in Lingle.

They moved to Basin in 1948.

She had been a resident of Wyoming Retirement Center in Basin since April 23, 1990.

Her interests included reading; working crossword puzzles; and, especially gardening. People often drove by her home just to see the spring flowers she grew. While in Basin, she was a member of the United Methodist Church and a past member of Lewisia No. 16, Order of Eastern Star; and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her daughter, Crystal Cavender of Casper; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on March 10, 1977, after 34 years of marriage; a brother; and a sister.

A memorial fund has been established, with proceeds to be designated at a later date. Memorials may be sent in care of Security State Bank, P.O. Box 531, Basin, WY 82410.
