Two listmembers, having gone to lots of trouble & expense
to find living family members in Russia, are surprised
that these are not keen on correspondence.

I try to answer, and explain a potential reason.

The Gulag stories I run on the Gr-Heritage List again
should be of interest to those whose ancestors and
relatives were deported and imprisoned there.
Volga GR were victims.

The "Memorial" issued regional books called Martyrologues, which lsit and name those
killed, shot, arrested, deported...
again, a major tool for tracking the lives of family
members, and what happened to them.

Hope this explains - I would not send something through that is irrelevant to Volga-GRs
still living in Russia or who died there this century.
