In alt.genealogy Rob Stieglitz <> says:
: I am a bit frustrated! I have been searching the 1930 Census and have been
: successful finding my families in Asbury Park and Jersey City but Neptune is
: giving me a problem. My family (Flanagan & Lorigan) lived at 1214 9th
: Avenue in Neptune but I can't find it in the Census! Is it Neptune or
: Neptune City? To complicate things more, my Mother states it was Bradley
: Beach! I have the obit and it states Neptune but I am still at a lost to
: find which District to search in the Ancestry.Com on-line census.
They're all correct, in a way.
Found via Google:

The Borough of Neptune City was incorporated on October 4, 1881.
The boundaries included all of what is now Avon-by-the-Sea, the
southern portion of Bradley Beach and the present land area known
as "Neptune City." On March 23, 1900 a bill approved in the State
Legislature created the Borough of Avon-by-the-Sea. Seven years
later, on January 28, 1907, the eastern portion of Neptune City
was annexed to the Borough of Bradley Beach.
An easy way to find out is to call the town hall (explore from
the link above) and ask about your area of interest.
