"There is a Fomerla castle in a townland of the
same name in Tulla parish, in East Clare."

This was an easy one. With my Discovery series
#58 ordnance survey map for East Clare, I looked
about two miles east of Tulla proper and saw the
townland Fomerla, with three places noted : a
bridge, a cillin (hilltop) and the castle, not elevated.
A road off Route 352 goes north to Fomerla and
continues to a intersection, at Newgrove roughly,
with an unmarked road which starts off a more
westerly section of 352. 352 runs east from Ennis
though an area just south of Tulla and ends at
Tuamgraney, way east by the Lough Derg part of
the Shannon River.

Fomerla is not noted as having any buildings by the
castle, There are only 3 buildings total, one at the
bottom of the hill and two more by the road going
north. This must be a very old area, as in the
area around Newgrove, there is a holy well, a
standing stone, and a megalithic tomb, and more
of the same to the east of Newgrove.

Hope this helps.
