Subject: Anastasia - Irish Name?

Hi,
FYI - yes it was a common Irish name, most times abbreviated in the
parish records as Anty.
I think that this may be one of the things that we lose with the easy
access to info and lookups by others on the web. When one searches
parish records themselves (or census records where they exist), not
only do you find (sometimes) the info you are seeking on your ancestor
but you get a feel for things, like how common certain names were, how
many children people had, how many children died young, etc etc.
My gggrandmother was an Anastasia, and I thought this rather unusual,
until I started reading parish records - there's tons of them - all
abbreviated the same way. My gggrandmother was always called Anna -
except on census records where she was called Anna S., or sometimes
Enna S. - making me think that while it was a common name in Ireland,
it may not have been so in the US (at least not in the area where she
lived).
Frances
