The frustration about the unavailability of the site is heightened by two
factors:

One, the immense self-promotion of both the transcription "achievement" and
the 9am availability online by PRO management (BBC TV, Radio 4, most
national newspapers etc), which has simply exacerbated the problem, whereas,
just perhaps, it may not have occurred-or been as severe-otherwise.

Two, the lack of a clear unambiguous statement by the PRO on their home page
as to exactly what is the problem (i.e. how serious is the overload -
availability v's visitors); what exact steps are being taken to address the
issue, e.g. additional hardware; and when, given the current demand by
users, they feel they will have the resources to cope - in essence when
should the public have confidence that they will waste no more of their
precious time reading error messages.

If one had not been so shamelessly pushed, and two had been addressed early
in the day by the PRO, many genealogists would be more understanding.
