I agree John. Judy seems to have come in at the eleventh hour with her
opinions on an issue which has been discussed at great length in this
Newsgroup, often by informed people participating in the project, and
concluded, on no evidence, that it will be a shambles. As usual, I think
she is trying to sound more informed than she is, perhaps to impress
newbies.
For example, on the pricing issue which she brought up here recently and
much too late for her opinions to be of any value .... this issue was
not only much discussed when the trial project went online but those
discussions led to changes, amounting to concessions, from the PRO. I
can only assume Judy was too busy with her feuds to read any of the
posts on what was probably the most discussed, and important, issue of
the last year.
We all await this with hope and trepidation. The trepidation, for my
part, is based on experience of server problems when other major
databases have first gone live ( IGI, Ellis Island,CWGC etc) and I have
factored in a need for patience in the early days. Note that the
databases I mention now all run smoothly .... we just won't be all able
to get in at 9 am tomorrow morning <g>.
There will also be a learning curve for all of us as to the best way to
use the site and best value in spending our money. For example judicious
use of the free Index will hopefully minimise waste when it comes to
paying ....
There will also be transcription errors, though much hard work has been
done (by people like Eve and Barney) to minimise this ..... but in
general, I expect that in a month or so we will all be beavering away
most productively.
