Finally, painfully, after many trials, I have identical data bases on two
machines. Hoorah!!!
Now a question for CheriC and Glen: I can not see an option called "Copy".
Have I managed to hide that somewhere?
Any more guidance would be most welcome.
Thank You,
Jean

I think that the copy method for moving between machines is vastly superior
to backup and restore. I only backup my DB to an external hard drive for a
serious issue.

Hi guys
The way I work between 2 or 3 machines is I simply copy the whole database
(.GDB) and then overwrite the one on the other machine

Thank you Wim,
I bought the lap top only last week.
Then I downloaded a new copy of the Genbox programme from Thoughtful
Creations website.
Then I did a "copy" of my Genbox on my PC and did a restore on the laptop.
Everything appeared except notes.
So I tried "back up" and "restore" from PC to laptop.
Still no notes.
Are you saying I should have done a Gedcom Export and Import?
If so, can I do it now, or do I delete everything off the laptop Genbox?
Now, this is leading to my next worry.
Say, I go to the library with the laptop and enter data.
Back home I thought I would be able to do a "back up" from the laptop to a
disc and promptly do a "restore" on to the PC so I would have identical data
on both machines.
Is this possible?
Have I been dreaming?
Thank you for your time,
Jean

Hi Jean,
I have done back up and restore here but my notes (general and research) are
included. Are you sure it's because of these back-up/restore operations and
not because of an export-import operation in the past?

Subject: [GENBOX] Back Up and Restore
Hello All,
I now have Genbox on a lap top as well as my home PC.
I have used Copy and Restore,
and Back Up and Restore to have identical data on both machines.
But neither option carries the General Notes or Research Notes.
I can not find the appropriate box to tick.
(Scary stuff. For years I have been carrying the latest back up with me in
my handbag, never realising that it was not all there).
Thank You,
Jean
