Paul had changed the assertion, that's why he had to change Support levels.
Another scenario would be to enter a second assertion based on the same set
of sources but alternative to the first one. The sources for both assertions
should be the same, only the support levels would be reversed to each other.
In the first assertion he just would have needed to set the Surety Level to
"Marginal Evidence" and in the second assertion to a higher level.

This scenario also describes what actually happened in his research. I think
I would have opt for the latter one
