With the new 'root path' feature it is probably best to strip off the
path totally and then the media files/folders can be freely relocated.

I suggested to Bill that there needs to be an add/remove root path
feature of some sort and he agreed, so we may see that soon. Perhaps the
correct method would be a utility which allows you to change all
instances of "Old Path String" to "New Path String", to allow part or
all of the old path to be changed or deleted?

My other suggestion was to have a "find missing media" utility to find
media files which have been moved or renamed. Currently these can only
been found by browsing through the entire media view. If this utility
was smart enough it could automatically correct the path for all missing
media with a changed path once the first instance was found and
corrected.

It is reasonably fast to work through the Media view and remove the old
path and paste on a new one if need-be, but this is a bit tedious so I
am waiting to see what Bill comes up with before I remove the root paths
from my media.

Subject: [GENBOX] GEDCOM export problem?

I need disparately to change the picture media paths, from a old GEDCOM
imported file, to a NEW local machine picture path.
1) I find changing the two new local picture path options (latest
version) does not change the paths that were specified by the original
GEDCOM imported database.

2) The effect is ..... when I try to export a GEDCOM (from Genbox) I
get the OLD picture paths and not the NEW picture paths which makes the
Genbox GEDCOM unusable.

Question: Do any of you folks happen to know of a way that I can make a

'global' change (search and replace) of the picture paths before I
export from Genbox? I could of course do a search and replace of the
old GEDCOM file but then I would have to enter all my witness
information again. Bummer!!

I have asked Bill, off list, what his suggestions might be but assume he

is busy with other things right now and has not replied.
Any help you folks might give me will be appreciated.

David
