Well I must be doing it too, as BMDB are not first for me either...

I was also under the impression that blank basic events would be created
for those that do not have them, but I cannot see them either.

Is there a magic step we have missed?

Also, I cannot as yet successfully search for blank events using (!). I
just keep getting the no matches found dialog. The same search using (*)
does work, so I don't think it is the way I have set it up. <g>

Btw, love the new summary page columns. I do now have grid lines on both
the children and the event boxes on that tab, and very nice they look
too..

I must be doing something incorrect, because the Basic Events (BMDB) are
*not* displaying first despite having selected this Preference and
closing and reopening the program. I have dates and sometimes sort
dates for these events; does that affect whether or not they will
display first?

Re the grid lines. I have checked this option for both instances. Am I
wrong to assume that in the Summary View, the events at the bottom would
have grid lines? I didn't quite understand what the gridlines affected
other than the Lists.
