It works the same for me, and this would be tolerable if, when you
double-clicked the header, the column expanded or contracted to the width of
the widest entry in that column. This isn't how it works, though.

I can't see long entries, such as "Between 1890 & 1900" in the date column.
Also, if I double-click on the splitter to the right of event name column
header, it narrows the column so that event names like "Employment" are no
longer completely visible.
