I haven't heard any comment on this topic, so I will raise it again. On a
marriage event, if you add a source to the spouse name, that source is
applicable only to the focus person. Therefore, you have to switch the
focus to the other spouse and readd the source citation.

This seems odd to me. How could a source confirm the name of a person's
spouse and the reverse would not be true? This seems like a bug to me and
that a citation added to the spouse name should appear on the marriage event
irrespective of which person is the focus.
