Hi Jim,

The problem with empty death events confusing the Problems Spotter has been
corrected in 3.0.21. In this version the "DEAT Y" events are still being
imported; deleting empty event records sounds like a good thing to add as a
separate feature, rather than making it an automatic process on import.

I also have the Legacy "Cause of Death" information (stored under the rarely
used CAUS tag) going into the extra text field rather than the general notes
field. This information can be present even on a "DEAT Y" event record.

Regarding the need for living/dead flags: Genbox currently uses a "Living"
flag to determine which data should be suppressed for living individuals. If
this flag is not set, the program next checks for the presence of a death
event. If not found, it will use the preferences setting for maximum age for
individuals assumed to be living. So, the empty death event can serve a
purpose. There is no "dead" flag used by the program; unlike "living" which
is an open-ended status condition, "dead" implies the occurrence of a death
event, so having a "dead" flag would be redundant.

One thing that does need to be changed is the default template for empty
death events; "John died" looks silly. A better wording would be "John is
known to be deceased". Even that output would be deemed superflous for
someone born in 1850.
