There are a couple of notes from me in the archives concerning
import from Legacy, including one with the best workarounds
that I was able to come up with for various issues, including
the Living flag.
Look for a message with the subject "Legacy GEDCOM Import Fixups."
In addition to preserving this information, the other reason
you want to fix them up is that default import creates
Death events with a blank date which causes confusion for
other things like the Problem Spotter.
