Modifying a source template can affect the appearance of the General Page of a
source using that template, and Wim writes:

Hi, Wim,

Thanks for the explanation. It fits the circumstances I described, since the
greyish fields (Doc title, Copy date, Doc locater) are for variables that are
not included in my modified source template. There's no way to remove them from
the source view. They must be hard-wired or default fields. I need to retain the
Doc locater field, at any rate, grey or white, since I need it to refer to my
hard-copy filing system. The fact that the field turns grey when you remove a
(default?) variable from the template must simply be an indicator that the
variable is not in the template even though it appears (hard-wired?) on the
specific source view.
