Debbie - That is cool. I have just been making separate places in the
situations you are describing. Don't think at this juncture I will go back
and fix the old ones, but this will be handy for new places. Thanks for
this easy-to-understand explanation. Now have you figured out the
relationship of how this works with date ranges for places? CheriC

With the Places, you can have, for one location, a number of different name
variations associated with it. Here's an example based on my ancestral
home in Brookport, Massac County, Illinois.

Standard Name:
Brookport
(higher place of: Massac County, Illinois)

Name Variants (found on the Names tab in Places):
Brooklyn
Pellonia

All three of these names would have the same ID #, as Brooklyn and Pellonia
are just a name variant of Brookport. Since I still want them to show the
name of place the event happened in, I would *not* place a check mark in
the box "Replace with Standard on input". This way, when I have to type
Pellonia, Massac County, Illinois, it is not replaced with the city name of
Brookport. I could even go one step further and have the out say:
Pellonia (now known as Brookport), Massac County, Illinois

Does this make a bit more sense? I know the places are a bit confusing at
first, but I know you'll get the hang of it.
