The 4 1/2 acres where the original church was formed was
deeded to the church in 1825 by my ancestor Paschal M Watts
b 1803. He was the son of Littleberry Watts and his wife Nancy
There is a Historical marker in the road between Shady Dale and
Madison that says "Three miles from here in a grove of Oaks
Antiock Church was established in a primative log cabin Sept 18
1809. Soon a building 40x60 was erected on 4 1/2 acres of land
including the original site.
In Sept 1827 4000 people including many ministers attended a
session of the Ocmulgee association in the church yard. A sermon
by Antioch minister Adiel Sherwood started a revival that swept
through 22 Counties bringing 16,000 converts in two years. Dr
Sherwood preached 333 sermons in 30 counties in that period. In
1845 Antioch Church moved to it's present location"
The Historical Markers of North Georgia by Kenneth W Boyd.
Now located in Godfrey Ga a few miles from the original site.
