The below was a posting some time ago. I hesitated on a response since I
know so little about the Gamel lines. One of my Uncles, Walter Gilson was
married to Ila Gamel.
Walter was first married to a Lottie I. Buck. Lottie died of cancer on March
21, 1927.
Ila Gamel married Walter Gilson. April 12, 1937. They lived in Abilene,
Taylor County, Texas and later in years moved to Sacramento, California. They
had no children.
Ila's sister, Leona married a William Thomas Reeves born in Foreman,
Arkansas (later lived in Abilene, Texas where he met Leona and Ila).
Ila was know as "Little Tex", by her husbands sister's.
Ila B. Gilson was Walter Gilson's 2nd wife. She was a waitress at the same
hotel in Omaha, that Walter was the chef.
The name Ida and not Ila was stated on her husband, Walter's death
certificate as was the identity on photo's. Sister's in-law said that she was a Texan.
Her S.S. record indicates she was from Texas prior to 1951.
I would appreciate any information regarding Ida or
Ila Gamel Gilson.

I believe I am related to you. My Grandmother is Susie Isaphine Gamel. She
was married to George William Gamel. My grandmother is 95 and living in a
nursing home in Odessa, MO. She is not in good health. My computer at home is
having some trouble and I can not get to my yahoo email so today I came to the
library. I will be happy to give you the pictures and information I have. My
name is Cindy Gamel Preston. My Aunt Elsie did some digging in this line
before her death last year.
Sincerely,
Cindy

Hi, listees,
I am trying to research the forebears of my 3x greatgrandfather Charles
Newton GAMMILL, b. abt 1825 in Tennessee; m. Nancy (Polly) MALLARD 29 Nov
1849 Lawrence Co., Missouri; d. 1894 Mount Vernon, Lawrence Co., Missouri.
On his daughter Sarah Elizabeth GAMMILL NEILL's death certificate, his name
is written as "Nute" GAMMILL. He was a farmer, living mostly in Buck Prairie
Township, Lawrence Co., Missouri. I have all of his children.
He married 1. Nancy MALLARD, 2. a woman named Susan after Nancy's death 15
April 1872 (Susan shows up as his wife in the 1880 census). Possibly, he
married a third time, as the 1900 census for Buck Prairie Township lists a
Mary GAMEL, living with George ROPER, the wife of one of Newton GAMMILL's
daughters. The entry for Mary describes her as George ROPER's mother-in-law.
Ancestry's *Family Data Collection, Individual Records*, lists the parents
of Charles Newton GAMMILL (b. 1828, TN) as James GAMMILL and Sarah. There
are also entries listing Newton's siblings as Joseph J. GAMMILL (b. 1840,
TN); Harriet Meddline GAMMILL (b. 1834, TN); Samuel H.[arrison] GAMMILL (b.
1839, TN).
James and Sarah GAMMILL moved from TN, bought property in 1848-49 in
Lawrence Co., MO. The census rolls for 1860-1870 show them living in Buck
Prairie Twp, Marionville, Lawrence Co., MO. They do not show up in census
reports for 1880.
Is anyone researching this line backwards? I am trying to identify where
they lived in Tennessee, who James GAMMILL's parents were, and Sarah's
surname. There is a James GAMMILL family, but he married a Hester Bedwell.
Is my James connected to this family?
All thoughts appreciated!
Lorraine
