I don't know if you're still doing genealogy--I just recently got involved.
My grandmother, Mary Belle Virginia Anna Elliott, was born in 1878. Her brother, Lum Carter Elliott, was born ~1878. The 1910 census lists Lum and his mother, Martha (65yo at the time, so born ~1845)living at the same address as my G/M, her husband, and six children.
I have always had great curiosity about my grandmother's family because no one knows anything about her ancestry. Little-known family gossip had it that her mother had never been married and that she and Uncle Lum had lived with my grandparents from the time they married in 1898.
I have reason to think there might have been other, older, children, however. And somewhere I came up with the name Thomas Elliott for Uncle Lum's father. I also have seen the mother referred to as Mattie, and I have seen her called both Elliott and Reeves.
Did you ever find out anything more? I'd love to hear what you know!
Dianne
