Dear A. Gallagher,
My grandmother Mary Gallagher is one of the Gallaghers I have. She was
from Tulleague, Killasser, Co. Mayo. Her parents were Margaret Gallagher
(maiden name) and Andrew Gallagher. Mary's siblings were: Peter, William,
Aeneas, Bridget, Alice, Sarah, Patrick and Andrew. They were all born in the
late 1800's. This family was later than the date you gave to me. I can't go
back any farther than Margaret and Andrew Gallagher.
The other Gallaghers that I have in my family tree are cousins to my
mother. They are from Swinford and I'm not sure if their village is
Carracanada or Kinaffe but I think it is Kinaffe. A John Gallagher married a
Mary Kennedy and had 10 children. Mary Kennedy was my mother's aunt. John
Gallagher was born in 1864 and his wife Mary Kennedy was born in 1869. I
can't go back any farther than John Gallagher.
There is a Francis Gallagher who had a part in the uprising of 1798. He
was from Esker, Swinford, Co. Mayo. His daughter Mary Gallagher then married
a John Kennedy and that is how they came to be in my family tree. It seems
that the Kennedys and Gallagher kept marrying each other in various
generations.
Is this confusing enough for you?
