Subject: [GA-Roots] DRIVER...tracking and backtracking to search for signs of my elusive grandfathers.
Date: Sat, 30 Jun 2001 15:28:26 -0400
father: 1820 - A JACOB DRIVER is listed in the John H. Butts District of
Putnam County, Georgia. He was listed as being forty-five years old, with a
wife and four sons.
son.....1820 - GEORGE WASHINGTON DRIVER was born in Screven County,
Georgia, but in the same year of 1820 his father Jacob Driver is listed in
Putnam County, Georgia.
father: 1830 - JACOB DRIVER is on the Henry County, Georgia Census.
son.....1834 - GEORGE WASHINGTON DRIVER served in a Seminole War. This
is in his pension papers; he would have been only fourteen.
son.....1842 - September, in Hamilton County, Florida. I find the
marriage record of one GEORGE DRIVER and SUSANNAH GRIFFIN. Marriage Bond
was purchased on September 8, 1842. The marriage was solemnized on the 15th
of September.
father: 1850 - February, 71 year old JACOB DRIVER born South Carolina,
listed in the Mortality Schedule for Gwinnett County, Georgia.
son.....1850 - On the Census of Ware County, Georgia House Number 431,
is listed GEORGE W. DRIVER age 30, with wife SUSANNAH age 19 and son WILLIAM
R. age 1.
son.....By the mid to late 1850s GEORGE WASHINGTON DRIVER was now living
in Florida, first found in Suwannee County, Florida and later in Lafayette
County, where he died.in 1895. He had six known children with his first wife
SUSAN A or SUSANNAH [GRIFFIN?], and two known children with his second wife
CHRISTIANA MAGDALINE PONCHIER/POUCHER
What I am really interested in is finding out where this family was from the
time they are found on the Henry County, Georgia census till the Gwinnett
County Mortality Schedule and up until I find the son [George] on the Ware
County, Georgia Census for 1850. I and others, find numerous marriage
records for the GILES DRIVER line, but I have never found a single record in
Georgia so far, for my DRIVER line. Correction, my direct line. I have found
records of JACOB's brother DAVID DRIVER and his children. In Muscokogee
County, Georgia in the 1840s, couple of other Georgia counties for this
group, and then they moved into Alabama, mainly in Coosa, Autauga, Perry
and Chilton County areas. Then later this group [David and his children]
moved out west. There are several Jacob Drivers from different family lines
which makes it extra hard to know if I even have the right Jacob or not.
*sigh* If anyone out there can offer any help on this mystery of my
gggg-Grandfather Jacob, and my ggg-grandfather George, I would be so
delighted to hear from you. They were living in Georgia by the early 1800s,
but I have only ever found two DRIVERs listed in the "Pioneers of Wiregrass
Georgia Books" by Folks Huxford. I know the Leslie Robert Driver listed
there is one of mine, but I do not know about the Martha Driver listed
there. Haven't found anyone else who knows who she might be. I do know that
my grandfather Jacob [listed above] had six sisters whose names are all
unknown.
love to hear from you,
Sharon
