Geraldine,
Have you tried opening your volume controls to see if your sound has been
marked "mute"? Sometimes when my modem has a rough disconnect, it changes
the sound setting. You should see a small megaphone symbol on the right
bottom status bar, and if you right click you get the choice of opening the
controls. See if any boxes are checked for "mute." If so uncheck.
