Yeah, the Melungeon thing has been debunked according to some article that I
read a year or so ago. There is still support for their
"mysterious origins", but evidently it didn't hold up to close scrutiny when
looked at carefully by some graduate student. I had little interest in it
at the time so I didn't save the link, but one can probably do a Google and
find it easily enough.
What I do find interesting is that the rune stone in Minnesota has tested to
be an historical Viking artifact predating Chris Columbus et al by hundreds
of years.
