My grandmother got married on Christmas Day and when I asked her why, she
told me that was the only day that Grandad got off work. This was around
1899.

Have found in my files a disproportionate number of 19thC weddings
occurring on the same day - 25 Dec.
Was this just a popular choice in the time frame or was it that the COE
did free weddings on that day?
