Thorpe Bay near Southend is a 20th Century development so probably canbe
discounted for this. In 1795 there were just a few farms scattered between
Southchurch and Shoebury one of which was Thorpe Hall Farm.

There is also a Thorpe near Southend - also known as Thorpe Bay. To
quote from Wikipedia:

"Thorpe Bay is situated within the Southend ward of Thorpe. It is
around 4 miles to the east of Southend. Originally the area was called
Thorpe, but was renamed Thorpe Bay after its station. The station had
been given the name to indicate that it was a seaside settlement"

I guess it could be either...

Thorpe-le-Soken is, of course, a lot closer... but I find that, these
days at least, people tend to refer to it by its full name rather than
the abbreviated version. However, that's just my impression... and I'm
an incomer to the area (as opposed to a "real" local), and although I've
lived in Colchester, Wivenhoe and Manningtree I have never lived in
Thorpe-le-Soken itself.
