If they are Essex people, go to the records office in Chelmsford. I
recently got back from England (and went to the record office) it's quite
large - I was surprised. Do make sure you are prepared beforehand...map,
pencils, ID, notes, hours, you'll need a readers ticket - I was sadly
completely unprepared the first day! The history society is downstairs, but
make sure you know their hours beforehand. SEAX online is wonderful and
free, but not many records online just yet - I find that Essex records in
general (and I am Essex born and raised) to be skimpy online at best - even
the IGI has miserable coverage. Sylvia
