I've had no luck with Frederick Walter WILSON's birth or marriage, but I'm
fairly certain his wife's maiden name was Mary Ann Elizabeth HARRIS. In the
1881 census, Frederick's mother in law is present and although I read it as
the practically non-existent surname of SLEGGALL, the transcriber suggested
STEGGALL which is a valid surname. 1881 gives his wife's name as Mary Ann
rather than the Elizabeth mentioned in subsequent censuses, but Caroline's
discovery that her first names were Mary Ann Elizabeth explains that
change. Frederick's birthplace is given as Saffron Walden - unsurprising as
it was the nearest well known place to Arkesden.
Mary Ann Elizabeth HARRIS was baptised on 3 October 1855 (born 22 October
1854) at St Andrew Holborn, parents William Edward and Mary Ann HARRIS. Her
mother was the daughter of James EWER, a greengrocer born in Denham,
Buckinghamshire in about 1798. She married William Edward HARRIS on 21
December 1837 in St Leonard, Foster Lane, London and then was living as
Isaac STEGGLES' wife in the 1861 census, together with Mary A HARRIS, his
stepdaughter.
Unfortunately, knowing his wife's maiden name hasn't helped uncover a
marriage for Frederick Walter WILSON though!
