Found written on the fly leaf of a great world war book in the ERO.
John Brightwell BENNETT Cpl

161st Brigade
enlisted 9 Sept 14
15 Aug 1915 landed on the beach at Suvla Bay without any equipment which was
lost with sinking by enemy action off [?] area of Royal Edward
27 Aug moved off at night we [made?] for [?] along the sea [?] This position
was on the left flank of australian forces at anzac where 161 Brigade was
posted
Remained at [?] point, the unit was spread out to the front lines.
12 Dec Unit evacuated at anzac the 54 Divn went several days earlier so we
were the last of the Division to depart were handed over to a mounted? field
[unit?]
It was our experience of flies, sick & dysentry & jaundice etc and all were
debilitated. I lost 2 stone in weight.
