Well done Diane - the best websites do, as you say, automatically adjust
themselves for whatever width the monitor displaying them is set to.
I agree 800 pixels is very annoying - especially when you realise that
the site you're viewing is almost 50% space filler! However I can see it
having a resurgence of popularity, what with all these netbooks with
modest screens and sophisticated web-browsing mobile phones with very
high resolution displays. 800 pixels is becoming the magic number once
again!

What I can“t understand is why commercial site still stick to 800 pixels
wide. This seems way out of date.
As an amateur website developer (I write sites for local clubs as a
hobby), I code the pages so that they fit to the resolution of the
individual settings i.e. my web sites can be viewed at any resolution
without need for the horizontal scroll bar.
