Neither, just more and more available online.

Two years ago all the lists and newsgroups were far more active. It
was nothing unusual for me to get around 300 mails a day. Now I'm
lucky to get 50.

A list is only as active as its membership: so how about posting a
genealogical query to encourage responses?
