I think you're right but some people get very prissy about their

It's possible one or even both was still married or it could be that
their first child was on the way before they married (not uncommon)
and they decided to wait until afterwards but never quite got a Round
Tuit. Another possibility is that the wife was a widow when she
remarried. If that was the case, then she'd have married under her
late husband's name which did not have to be mentioned on the birth
certs of her children by her second husband.
Don't give up looking though.
