particular town/village/hamlet is http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/places/

click on "Download the Place-Name index"
then scroll down (all A-Z) or use the FIND box on the toolbar

In this case ...

Layer Breton ESS 1837 1939 Lexden
Layer Breton ESS 1939 1974 Colchester
