Have you had any other answers to your queries ? I have not seen any !
I don't know this area well, but I would guess that in the 1861 and 1871
Censuses that Charles Saltmarsh himself gave the information about
his birthplace and so gave the actual village of Great Hallingbury, but
in the 1881 Census that some official may have filled in the information
from the records and so put down the larger Registration District of
Bishops Stortford which actually included that same village ? You are
actually quite lucky to have his full name on this later Census as they
sometimes only listed people in prison or asylums by their initials !
