The "United Kingdom of Great Britain" began in 1707 with the Act of Union
(between England and Scotland). Prior to that, they were separate kingdoms which
happened to share the same monarch. Though the Stuarts called themselves
"King of Great Britain", the national Parliamesnts were entirely separate until
the AoU.
