I don't have access to the originals but I happened to be looking at the film today. You may already know that the
problem isn't the usual one of legibility or faded ink. The original book must be very tightly bound, because the
last word of the longer lines disappears into a dark shadow. The surname appears to start Ma.....

There are MATHAMS and MAY families in the village. Sorry I can't help you further.
